Why do this?

A question I ask myself, and a question I get asked.

It was October 2006 when I had the idea, and after doing some extensizegoogling on the net. I found that many people have done the trip. So Idefinatly won't be alone.

Its march 12th 2007, with T-50? days.

I have my bike, and am searching now for all the bike acessories that I will need.

Its sometimes becoming overwhelming at the amount of details that need to bedone before the trip.

Tuesday 1.15pm February 27th 2007.

I was on my way to get a hair cut, when I got the call.

It was a nurse from the Emergency hosital in Zoersel Belgium. My mother was emited and was in a coma and on oxygen. So just over 24 hrs later I arrive inthe ICU and see that she was in shock but ok.

My family arrived shortly after, so it was an unexpected family renioun. Fortunatly my mother is now stable and should be back on her feet soon.

Wow, how important it is to live every day to its fullest. As all we have is ourpast and the choices we will make for our future. ...
I was pleased to learn that my mother went across canada in the 60's hitch hikedand took the train. And lived in varuious places across the country.

So instantly, this made a reason for me todo this trip. It also added a newcause. Promoting healthly active living. My mother smoked a pack a day, andher lungs were black. ... Fully being drained with tubes. ..So now its up to herif she want to live longer, she can't smoke.
I have never smoked and don't plan on it.I don't have a car, because I am doing my part for the environment ... How can I promote using a bike if I had a vehicle? ... A 4 door is ment for 4 people inthe car at all times.

So I realize that with that experience that it will mean more to me doing thistrip because I will be promoting to people across the country to use thedifferent ideas to make a small difference on the environment.

By keeping the car at home 1 day a week.
By car pooling for short and long trips.
By taking the bike out more often.
By investing in personal solar pannels, and ...
By taking an interest in alternative sources for transportation and power.

I'm just 1 person on a bike, and going across the country.
Your just 1 person reading this page on the sea of the internet. Individually Ican't make a global impact, however if everyone reading this, and follows alongon the journey, and does something to help the environment... And tells otherpeople about it. Then together we can change the world.

Cheers,
Sam
